Study snapshot
Abstract
The article describes the character of electromagnetic field (EMF) in mobile phone base station (BS) surroundings and its variability in time with an emphasis on the measurement difficulties related to its pulse and multi-frequency nature. Work also presents long-term monitoring measurements performed recently in different locations in Poland - small city with dispersed building development and in major polish city - dense urban area. Authors tried to determine the trends in changing of EMF spectrum analyzing daily changes of measured EMF levels in those locations. Research was performed using selective electromagnetic meters and also EMF meter with spectrum analysis.

Main findings
The article reports long-term monitoring measurements of EMF levels in mobile phone base station surroundings at different locations in Poland and analyzes daily changes to identify trends in the EMF spectrum. It emphasizes measurement difficulties related to the pulsed and multi-frequency nature of the fields and describes use of selective EMF meters and spectrum analysis.
Outcomes measured
- Characterization of EMF in mobile phone base station surroundings
- Temporal variability of measured EMF levels
- Trends in EMF spectrum changes (daily changes)
- Measurement difficulties due to pulse and multi-frequency nature
Limitations
- No health outcomes assessed (exposure characterization only)
- Frequency range and quantitative exposure levels not stated in the abstract
- Sample size/number of sites and monitoring duration not specified
